About Me

Matt is a New England native who was born and raised in Chicopee, Massachusetts. At the age of 30, he went back to college to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. At UMASS, his interest in fungal pathogens began under the guidance of Dr. Li-Jun Ma, where his research focused on pH sensing pathways in human isolates of Fusarium oxysporum. Matt is currently investigating programmed cell death in Aspergillus fumigatus, with a focus on the role of cytochrome C. Outside of the lab, you can find Matt enjoying the company of his friends and/or playing his guitar.
